Western Region to get a Three-tier Interchange at the PTC Roundabout

 

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahammadu Bawumia has cut sod for the construction of a Three-tier Interchange at the PTC roundabout in the Western Region.

The project which will be undertaken by the SinoHydro Constructions Limited will enhance the capacity of the intersection and minimize congestion, improve travel time on the connecting roads and ensure safety of commuters and other road users.

According to the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, the project which was signed between the government of Ghana and Messrs SinoHydro Corporation Limited will include the construction of the PTC Interchange, Paa Grant and Shippers Interchange.

He stated that the construction of the dualization of roads from Paa Grant roundabout all through Sekondi to Accra and bridges in the Western region will kick-start soon.

“The construction of the dualization of the Paa Grant roundabout to the Effia-Nkwanta roundabout, dualization of the Effia-Nkwanta road to the RCCE, dualization of the Accra road, the construction of bridges over the Butuah Lagoon and the railway bridge on the Adiembra road will be widened to accommodate the dualization of the proposed roads,” he said.

He further encouraged contractors of the project to use local labor in the construction of the Interchange and roads to help provide indirect jobs to the teaming masses of the youth and also improve and modernize the Oil-city.

At the sod-cutting ceremony, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah stated that the first tier of the project would include the provision of direct access to the market circle through the liberation road. The second tier is to link the Agona Nkwanta Road to the Cape Coast road whiles the third tier would be to link Sekondi Bypass to Axim Road.

“Under the project provision shall be for adequate drainage and all the drains constructed around this Interchange will be covered. My ministry has taken a fair decision that at least from now onwards, in all inner-city construction of our roads provision will be made in the design to cover all drains. The interchange when completed will have a pedestrians’ walkways, streetlights and public transport facilities shall also be undertaken as part of this project to improve safety at night,” said Hon. Amoako-Attah

He hinted that adequate provision has been made in the contrast for the payment of compensation to property owners who may be affected during the construction of the three-tier Interchange.

The Divisional Chief of Takoradi, Osahene Katayie Busumakora III acknowledged the government of Ghana, His Excellency. Nana Akuffo-Addo and his team for the good work done in the Western Region.

“I am here to congratulate and commend the President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo who is presented here today by His able Vice President, Dr Mahammadu Bawumia for the good things they have done for Takoradi,” he ended.
